The Schneider Museum of Art presents two new exhibitions, "Underdone Potato: Michelle Grabner" and "Hello Hello Hello" on view through August 9, 2025. Grabner’s solo show features paintings, sculpture, and installation that explore domesticity, labor, and materiality with intricate, everyday-inspired designs. Hello Hello Hello, curated by Grabner, is a group exhibition centered on communication and repetition across diverse media.

July Exhibition at ART ON FIRST: Inner Landscape Paintings - Martina Goldberg

Currently featured at ART on FIRST are inner landscape paintings by Martina Goldberg. Working mainly with acrylics, Martina captures visual aspects of landscapes in Mexico combined with a Northern European spirit, taking her expression beyond the limits of her viewers’ eyes. Using just a few visual elements and a limited palette, Martina’s paintings are often dramatically contrasted but also subtly blended, which is her way of interpreting the essence and mood of her compositions, always aiming to evoke in her viewers an inner landscape. She wants her viewers to feel the landscapes, not just see them.

ART in ACTION with Karina Mendoza-Wittke at ART on FIRST

Join ART on FIRST and Karina Mendoza-Wittke for ART in ACTION, an opportunity to meet, experience, and interact with Karina while she provides a live demonstration of her creating handmade jewelry. Paying attention to organic beauty, functionality, and workmanship, Karina focuses on natural stones including amber, beach pebbles, obsidian, opals, and more, as well as antique stone carvings, to create beautiful and wearable art. Each piece is then energetically cleared and intentionally charged, so it resonates at its fullest potential.

Ripcord is a sharp and heartwarming comedy that follows two very different women who become unlikely roommates in a senior living facility. Ripcord is a delightful and touching story about resilience, friendship, and the unexpected people who help us find joy.

Calm Abiding Meditation
This meditation is common to many traditions of Buddhism. In this practice, we rest our attention on a simple meditative support, such as the breath. Instead of following thoughts and emotions as we usually do, we release them and maintain our connection to the support.

“From this practice, we can experience a stable and calm mind. We learn to maintain and return to a sense of stillness, no matter what our outer circumstances. The mind is relaxed, alert and aware. The results of this practice are serenity, freedom in the face of circumstances, and ultimately Buddhahood.”

National expert and author Anna Zivarts will give a free public talk about the nondrivers in every community, the importance of meeting the transportation needs of nondrivers, how communities can work better for nondrivers (and everyone else), and valuing the expertise of nondrivers.

Nondrivers include people with disabilities, kids, older people, immigrants, people with suspended licenses, and people who can’t afford to own or operate a vehicle. Humboldt County’s nondrivers include at least 36,000 people without a drivers license, as well as an unknown number of people who have a license but can’t drive for financial or other reasons.
